Bach’s second partita offers five dance movements with the final movement - the Chaconne - surpassing them all. Longer than all of the others combined, it encompasses some of the most intense music ever written, as Bach repeats the bass line 64 times - moving from stark intensity to luminous lightness, then returning with renewed gravity.
